Oregon Metro
Metro is the nation’s only elected regional government, serving the greater Portland area. Their work spans urban growth planning, waste and recycling services, public spaces, and stewardship of places like Metro Parks and the Oregon Zoo, all with the goal of making the region a sustainable place to live. I joined the project during logo development, supporting the creation of a brand system that could represent Metro’s broad scope while remaining clear, welcoming, and civic-minded.

I helped translate early logo concepts into real-world contexts, mocking up mark iterations across locations such as Metro Parks and the Oregon Zoo to test clarity, scale, and usability. From there, I supported logo refinement and expanded the identity into a cohesive system of graphic elements and applications.
A key part of my role was designing custom illustrations derived from the logo. These visuals highlighted the many ways Metro serves the community and added warmth and approachability to a complex government organization. I then applied the system across stationery, mailers, and Metro’s local publication, Our Big Backyard, and contributed to the development of comprehensive brand guidelines.
The final brand system gave Metro a flexible, recognizable identity capable of supporting a wide range of services and communications. Seeing the work implemented across public spaces and materials throughout the Portland metro area remains especially meaningful and reflects the role design can play in supporting transparency, accessibility, and civic pride.
